Please do not confuse solid wood furniture with what is often described as "all wood," the furniture using substitute materials such as particleboard and plywood. No two trees are alike, no piece of wood looks exactly like another, in coloration or grain variety. Trees grow limbs and absorb minerals and other essential elements, creating knots and other character marks you may see in our furniture. Each piece of solid hardwood furniture is unique, color and grain variation are natural expressions of the solid wood.
All of our furniture is built using solid drawer boxes and English dovetailed drawers on metal runners, several pieces come standard with full extension or under mounted drawer glides. High quality gear slides make opening our double pedestal table easier to open by yourself. Self-storing models use center space to conveniently safely store away your extra leaves when not in use. We finish each piece of furniture in a 5-step process using a top grade catalyzed finish so strong it stands up to acetone nail polish remover. Every surface including the underside of our tables are finished and sealed to protect your investment.
Little effort is required to live with solid wood furniture but some effort is required to protect it. Your furniture will not behave the way a piece made from plastic or Formica will, solid wood furniture naturally responds to changes in temperature and humidity by swelling and shrinking. These natural responses are not defects and do not affect the strength of the furniture. Every effort should be made to keep your solid wood furniture away from direct heat sources such as radiators, hot air outlets, wood stoves, and direct sunlight. Never set a piece of furniture over top of a hot air register or too close to baseboard heaters, as this may cause the wood to become dry and eventually split. Although most homes normally maintain adequate humidity, care must be taken to keep the level of humidity as close to 45% as possible. This can be accomplished by using humidifiers during the winter months. Keep in mind; many antiques have survived for more than 200 years for the simple reason that for the first 175 years of their life they were in homes without central heating systems. By following these guidelines you can ensure that the handcrafted solid wood piece you have purchased today will become tomorrows treasured heirlooms.
